My Causes

1. Mumbai Goddess statue
There’s a legend that when the statue of Mumba Devi is submerged fully in the water, Mumbai will sink into the sea. I saw a dream where the Goddess asked us to build a 360 feet statue of the Goddess standing tall in the Arabian Sea in the west facing east towards the city. She asked to be in the form of a Goddess symbolizing the sacred feminine, a tribute to Shakti. A Goddess of everyone. Not a religious Symbol but surely divine. This will be the new statue that will never go under the sea and thus Mumbai will never drown. Write to mumbaigoddess@abhigyanjha.com to contribute and join the movement to make this dream come true.

2. Project WHY
There exists in south Delhi a small organisation run by Anouradha Goburdhun Bakshi that has built schools from extremely limited resources to offer kids from the slums hope for better morrows. Today Project Why teaches 600 kids, cares for 20 differently abled children, provides employment to more than 30 local staff and has sponsored 12 open heart surgeries.
To date, Project Why has relied solely on contributions from benevolent individual donors – ‘friends of Project Why’ – but its hand-to-mouth modus operandi means its existence is perpetually on a knife-edge. However, it has a dream, and the dream is to create a long-term sustainable future for Project Why by creating a haven for the lost souls that have gently dropped its way and a commercially successful guest house, and our dream is called ‘Planet Why’.
We at Undercover Utopia have decided to make Anou’s dream come true.

The Last Turnaround

The markets are turning around. Particularly in India. The world will turn around too. For the next 18 months, the markets will shoot up again. Everyone will forget the gloom and doom. The stimulus packages would seem to have worked. And then when you least expect it, the markets will crash for the last time. There will be no turnaround after that.

Stand Up and Don’t Change Your Views at Gunpoint!

After Mamata Banerjee arrested a professor in Kolkata because he made a cartoon of her – we are now right in the middle of a Fascist movement towards curtailing individual freedom of speech. I saw this coming in 2006 when some Christian groups tried to ban my film Sacred Evil. This is my Essay in Speech written in 2006 : Censorship & Intolerance in The Information Age. And a must read now.

On Slumdog Millionnaire

At the outset let me apologise to akshay kumar and nikhil advani…i had spoken too soon…i hadn’t seen slumdog yet…i stand corrected. If slumdog can be nominated for 10 oscars and wins 8…then akshay and nikhil deserved at least 8 nominations and 5 wins. Because the difference between slumdog and chandni chowk is a mere unnees bees as they say…whereas the difference between benjamin button and slumdog is the difference between heaven and hell.

Dear Friends of Mumbai,

We are all angry about what has happened. We were angry when 26/7 happened. And what did we do? How are you going to show your anger? Just by turning up at gateway with candles? Won’t work. neither will mindless violence.
